Consolidation of Powers
(in the "Standard" 14-line Sonnet style)

It might create unwanted expectations
If we should say what we intend to do.
Some might suspect designed confabulations
(or, bald-faced lies that aren’t really true);
disdainful of Reality’s foundations;
constructed using grease instead of glue.
And now a late-night TV entertainer
has twice arrived atop the Greasy Pole
of politics (a billionaire’s no-brainer)
in the United States (a hopeless hole),
each time assassinating someone saner
who played a more productive foreign role.
It might be nice to have a U.S. President
And not just one more White House rodent resident.

But then, the Congress, too, tells lies as it exhales
hot air past vocal cords, tongue, teeth and lips;
mouth noise (which just a tiny train of thought derails):
stale narratives, tall tales, and bovine quips.
The House and Senate guarantee a lie prevails
if it describes a sphere as an ellipse.
Our Courts have redefined the “corporation,”
confusing multiplicity with “one.”
Which undermines the concept of taxation.
How much should wealthy pay? The answer: none.
However, Congress will accept “donation,”
or “campaign contributions.” Call it done.
Corruption stinks by any name that you might choose.
The Rich will always win. The Poor will always lose.

The Global Oligarchy runs the Empire now.
The quaint conceit of “sovereignty”? How cute.
The Chinese communists have ditched their Chairman Mao
embracing Deng Xiao Ping and banker’s loot.
Have oligarchs got richer? You may ask. And How!
Deserving, as they do, their Ill repute.
The U. S. President has wars unending,
neglecting infrastructure’s due repairs,
continuing the Constitution’s rending,
about which depredations none despairs
who gather ‘round him, Donald's message sending:
“The world that He inhabits, He declares”.
If only Trump remembered what he said before
And billionaires like him made less from waging war.
